T20 World Cup 2021: The Next Big International Tournament
There are regular huge cricket tournaments that cricket fans can enjoy, and when it comes to International cricket tournaments there is the ODI Cricket World Cup and the T20 World Cup. The last ODI Cricket World Cup was in 2019, which England won, so the next one will not be until 2023. However, in October 2021, there will be the T20 World Cup in India for us all to enjoy.
The Tournament Was Postponed
This tournament was originally scheduled to take place in October 2020, but due to the current pandemic issue, the International Cricket Council announced in July that it would be postponing the tournament by a year. To add to this, in August, they announced that Australia would no longer be hosting this particular T20 World Cup, and that it would be held in India instead. Australia will then host another T20 World Cup the following year, which means that in the space of a year, we get treated to watching the best T20 players in the world battle it out to be crowned World Champions. What more could us cricket fans ask for?
The Teams That Will be Participating
The top 9 ICC full members and hosts India will be participating in this tournament. From these 10 teams, the top 8 sides were automatically put into the Super 12s stage, while the other two were put into the group stage, and they will be joined by 6 other teams that qualified via the T20 World Cup Qualifiers that were held at the end of 2019. These eight teams will play each other once, and the top four will move on to the Super 12s stage of the competition.
The 10 teams that have already qualified for the Super 12s are India, England, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, and Afghanistan. The 8 teams that will compete in the group stage for the right to join the Super 12s stage are Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Namibia, and Oman.
At the time of writing, we do not yet know the fixtures or what stadiums will be used to host the matches, but the ICC will more than likely release this information at some stage early next year.
Plenty to Bet On
There will certainly be plenty of entertainment on show, and we are sure that there will be more sixes than we can keep count of. However, there is another way to up the entertainment level and that is through T20 World Cup betting. Like with all cricket matches, you will be able to bet on the team that will win the whole tournament, the team that will win a particular match, the number of sixes that will be hit in a game, the number of runs that will be scored in a match, the next batsman to get out, and so on.
